JOB ONLY HALF DONE YET ELATED!!!

Cloud nine, top of the world r the terms that we use when we fail to express our emotions in absolute words and paragraph when dreams come true. This is what exactly happening to me as I m writing this piece , yes guys breaking into the gd pi list of one of India’s most famed institute called FACULTY OF MANAGEMENT STUDIES is giving me dizzy highs. Never ever felt so better and so satisfied.. (although only half the job is done) . As I step into the paramount round of gd pi , I must confess I m feeling nervous(although people who know me well may not agree).. Don’t want to loose on this opportunity of lifetime. So dearly wish to make it count. God/Goddess has been kind to me and I pray he/she remains that way… its time for me to take the huge leap, getting my arsenal ready and hopefully will fire on all cylinders at the required moment that can catapult me to the famed bandwagon of Indian managers. It will be an experience of lifetime to learn the finer nuances of risk assessment and resource management from the scholarly faculty of this great institute whose alumni are ruling the roost world over and playing an integral part in making the Indian economic progress, talk of the global village (not town J).

MADE THE CUT IN RECESSION

It was 15th of july when I came back to my college after summer vacation for the paramount “placement session” . There was not even an iota of doubt in my own abilities but there was something called economic meltdown which was giving us nightmares and add to that the impressive talent pool of my college where each guy is a champion in one field(competing with them was no cakewalk) or the other and u add the lacklustre and myopic TAP head to it and the scenario becomes bleak for job prospects. Almost whole mechanical was pinning their hope in one company called Mahindra & Mahindra (a giant in farm equipment sector and a venerated one in automobile sector). The Mahindra arrived on 27th and interestingly two of the five H.R. were ladies and that too very beautiful (seemed women empowerment has started to manifest itself big time) . The day started off with presentation where we got an idea of how huge conglomerate Mahindra is with strong presence in Automobile, Finance, I.T. , Infrastructure and an undisputed market leader in farm equipment sector. We were amazed by its diversified product portfolios and I really dreamt of being part of its success story. The first round was written and I was pretty nervous about it coz here luck can become the deciding factor, I sailed through aptitude section but there was always catch 22 regarding most of the question in technical section. I had tremor while waiting for written result but finally got through and heaved a sigh of relief , once the written was clear I became very optimistic about my chances as next round was group discussion and In past I had won many events that requires to speak and speak well. Although I cleared GD without any ado but the quality of GD left me pleasantly surprised as everybody in our group spoke really well and presented some cogent points (seemed pressure to perform brought out the best in everybody). Next round was personal interview and only 18 guys were left to fight among the 73 that took the field. As I entered the interview room with a fake smile , the H.R. panel greeted me before I could greet them. The panel was so cool that it evaporated all my nervousness and I was at ease with them , next 30 minutes went flawlessly and I guess I outperformed my expectation , while coming out of the room , an H.R. asked me “ if I will have any problem if they relocate me to some other place from my place of preference” . This sentence made me feel really positive about my chances but as the idiom goes “don’t count ur chickens before they hatch “ so I still had butterflies in my stomach. Next day we all 18 candidates were called and the head H.R. read out successful candidates name… when he read out my name , I was dumbstruck, speechless and struggling to give words to my emotions. The dream to join M&M bandwagon became true and the moment catapulted me to an would b executive of M&M. With elated feelings I came back to my room and sat alone for a retrospection and found my moments of failure as the genesis for my life’s till now most momentous success.

HOW TO STOP THE MENACE????

So once again the monster raised its head and this time our beloved game’s stars were under its hammer and once again we condemned it without any reservation. What’s new in all this???? I guess nothing new, all was a reiterate of Mumbai attacks including the scathing verbal attack on terrorism and its patriarch Pakistan. The question that I ask myself and I guess lot of Indians do is—will we ever go beyond the verbal form of attack???? Y have we capitulated to this so called jihad??  Today I can safely say that we r living in world’s most unsafe part and time and again being held to ransom by few terrorists??? Well this jihadis have grossly misinterpreted the holy KURAN and now they r unleashing terror attacks at will, I feel time has run out for parleys with them and their patriarch. Its time to unleash barbarism on them let them feel the fear when our Indian military will roar. After 1971 war Pakistan has continued its policy of death by thousand cuts on India after being vanquished in conventional war, our soft state image has really given them the impetus to harm us at will, its high time to make them feel the heat. The security experts always raises the threat of mutually assured destruction if India and Pakistan goes to war but I see it still positive since anyhow we are not living safe at current scenario, nobody knows when will the next strike occur… may be in the aftermath of war we will be able to root out terrorism infrastructure, its high time to make those cowards feel the fear. It’s the right of every sovereign country to protect itself and if that means going for a full fledged war then so be it. Lets pledge that we wont take it any more, we will payback them in the same coins, if they come up with any more misdemeanour then we will fall on them like heap of bricks, we will annihilate Pakistan.

HERE COMES THE PAIN(RECESSION)....

I boarded the bus for college with a newspaper in hand oblivious of how an article can shatter my confidence, the article read “IIT M-TECH Student commits suicide after failing to get a job” . This really puts things in perspective, and accentuates the precarious position we are in. After getting into NIT, JOB is the last thing that worried us and invariably we assumed that job is in pocket the day we became NITan but some foolhardy policies by U.S. banking sector lead to sub-prime crises which finally culminated into what now known as the global economic meltdown. Its repercussions are pervasive but for us young techies, it’s the job aspect that’s giving us nightmare, placements are sure to take a hit next session and we will see less no. of offers from famed blue chip companies, on the larger scale techies all over may have to fight tooth and nail for what was inevitable a yr ago i.e. job, unless economy ameliorates in next 6 months. The gloom is palpable in campus these days and to add to the woes, SATYAM fiasco has came as catastrophe sweeping job of many seniors and leaving them in a state of despair ( chances are bleak that satyam placement offers will turn into real jobs). Although govt. has brought in second stimulus which scores over first stimulus as it emphasizes on direct expenditure. But I have my apprehensions that venal administration may truncate its effect on economy, notwithstanding all these we techies have to show some resilience and spirit, although it’s easier said than done. Till now govt. has given good account of itself by coming up with some impressive plans but it’s the execution where it has invariably faltered but we cant afford a repeat otherwise there will be light at the end of the tunnel but it will be of an incoming train.

THANK YOU SACHIN

We have colossal dearth of champion sportsman in our otherwise productive country, our sportsman have invariably come cropper at international stage but amidst all this u have came across as a true champion and given us many moments of joy and ecstasy. We have bestowed all our hopes on u for last 20 yrs and u have carried those expectation with extraordinary performances. Thank you Sachin for your heroics. We all are very much embattled by plethora of problems in our daily life but your game acts as an antidote, just the sheer visual of your straight drive gives a vicarious high to all Indians. Ur cricketing feats are now very much part of the folklore and I don’t see a point in mentioning it but what is most baffling is the way u have carried yourself even after staying at the zenith of cricket from yrs. Its just impossible for a human not to let that much of success and adulation get into head , that’s why we call u GOD OF CRICKET. U r a source of inspiration to all Indians who wants to make it big in their respective career and at the same time hold onto humility ,the way u have. I apologise to u for the baseless and cynical brickbats you had to face from us fervent cricket lovers but its just because we expect the unexpected from u . All those who doubt your match winning prowess will do good to learn that for most of your career we never had a potent bowling attack (no Indian bowlers has ever averaged under 25 which is normally the stat all great bowlers boast of) which could win the game u set up so often. Such has been your heroics that we forgot it’s a team game and an individual requires support to win match. As all good things do comes to an end so will your celebrated career but it will be an emotional moment for all us cricket fans . In now what can be called as twilight of your career the heart wants 2011 world cup to be your swansong and I pray that u sign off from cricket field with a bang , your exit from cricket field is inevitable but from our heart and mind is impossible. The posterity will always be baffled and inspired by your deeds and tales will tell that once upon a time there lived a certain SACHIN TENDULKAR who changed the way game is played.

LETS DO HARA-KIRI IN SHAME...

Mumbai mayhem is now over and thanks to the valour of our security guards we managed to neutralise those mindless ruffians who are trying all sorts of tactics to sabotage our system but not before 200 innocent lives were lost. But what has exasperated me most in last few days is the venom that has been spewed upon our impotent, corrupt, strategy wise ill equipped politicians. Do we really have the moral right to call for their heads in the aftermath of Mumbai mayhem????? I wonder, I seriously wonder that when we cast our votes on the basis of religion, cast, statehood or our category then how do we expect these men to be a dynamic, efficient leaders in hour of crises. In every sphere of life merit holds the key but when it comes to the job of leading the country it takes the backseat, no surprise they have been found wanting and charged with dereliction . I can accentuate my argument with the fact that I belong to a state whose chief minister was caught in camera taking a nap amidst the discussion of nuclear deal in parliament, that man now leads a state and I m very sure that this man will again win election because he knows we vote on cast basis not performance basis. We all complaint relentlessly about the ever rising corrupt and criminal leaders in our democracy but I guess its time for some retrospection, lets ask ourselves y these men r leading us??? Answer is --- BECAUSE WE VOTE FOR THEM. I still remember 3 yrs ago Ram vilas paswan made a demand for muslim chief minister in bihar and it showed that man’s mental status, I wonder how can being a muslim is necessity ??? y couldn’t he demand for an educated and efficient person irrespective of his or her religion. We all know these are vote bank cards and Paswan is a champion of the game, still people will vote for this man who lacks a clear ideology otherwise how can anybody explain his presence as cabinet minister in all govt. since 1996. But no point in blaming these representatives( leader is too sacred and venerated word to choose for these self centric and opportunistic individuals) , blame rests on us. There has been a cry from eternity that we are hopeless because no qualified people jump into election. I say its utter rubbish, last time in U.P. assembly election a party of IITians fought and lost miserably because they were only qualified and they forgot to play the cast or religion card that woos and mesmerises us so much . There has to be a tectonic change in our mindset if we really wish to thwart any future mayhem , we have to weed out impotent rulers and the only way to do it is by keeping performance in mind the next time we go to cast our vote in ballot box( or electronic voting machine).

THE TRIUMPH OF NUCLEAR DEAL

THE TRIUMPH OF NUCLEAR DEAL

Amidst all the razzmatazz, bickering and shameless display of bundles of notes which
Was an act of sabotaging the fabric of democracy, the vexed deal has been passed and now goes up the ladder to IAEA(International Atomic energy agency) & NSG(Nuclear supplier group) for clearance and approval but the million dollar question is, was all this worth the deal?????? Estimates by independent experts shows that the price per unit of electricity produced by convention sources is around rs 1.5-2 but for nuclear power its around rs 2.8-2.9 per unit. According to planning commission if the country grow by 8-9% in next 22 yrs then in 2030 , we will need to generate 800,000 MW which will be 5 fold increase to our current capacity so , the onus should be to generate electricity from as diverse sources as possible and nuclear energy can Contribute a gargantuan part here since it will contribute around 7-8% of the energy needs in 2030 which is 64000 MW, the importance amounts to colossal proportions when we consider our fast dwindling conventional source of energy like coal and in this scenario we can ill afford to depend on our primitive sources only. Nuclear energy also scores vital points for being one of cleanest fuel , this augurs well especially in the wake of developed countries incessant request to India and China for cutting down carbon emissions as world tries to surmount global warming. But as far as the technical know how is concerned , this deal doesn’t really makes a huge impact in energy sector as India has failed to develop a reliable fast breeder test reactor that can use the country’s abundant source of thorium to produce electricity and since no other country has so much thorium reserves , we cannot expect to import the technical know-how of fast breeding reactor. The deal also has a strong strategical and political significance as it signals the end of more then 30 yrs of nuclear apartheid for India since the imposed sanctions had made us a nuclear pariah , amidst the growing economical and military clout of china , yours truly believes deal is in the best interest of India and U.S. as it makes India a force to reckon with and balance the power in asian region which is need of the hour keeping in mind china’s hostile attitude towards India and by promoting India , U.S. will certainly contain china in a big way as china is all set to challenge the U.S. supremacy . SO kudos to mr. manmohan singh for finally clinching the deal shrugging off left’s antediluvian theory , history will remember him as much for nuclear deal as economic reforms.
